Teacher Standards and Practices Commission

465 Commercial Street NE

Salem OR  97301

August 6-8, 2008

Due to the legislative demand that the commission add several limited duration investigators in order to address the backlog in discipline cases, there have been several staff “shuffles” to handle investigative work and investigative staff support.  The increased production in discipline investigations has increased the work load for the Executive Director and the Executive Assistant, Melody Hanson.

Additionally, due to one resignation to take a job in a school district and one termination, there is a current shortage in the licensure area of the office.  We have offered as many opportunities as possible to current commission staff while filling vacancies and attempting to provide the same level of speedy service we have achieved over the past two years.

1.      “File Room Clerk” – Office Specialist I  [former person was promoted to public service representative.]

2.      “Investigator” – Investigator 2  [New position to handle the cases that are getting older while other investigators process “high priority” discipline cases.]

3.      Director of Licensure – Principle Executive Manager D – [Open for one month with interviews anticipated during the last two weeks of September.]

4.      “Evaluator” – an unexpected resignation on July 28th created a vacancy among our three evaluators.  This is often an opportunity for advancement, but may also be an opportunity for reorganization of the licensure procedures and staffing.  I do not plan to open this position immediately until we have fully evaluated the systems potential this position may create.

We have divided the supervision of the licensure staff among managers Keith Menk and Stan Wall.  It is my expectation that these staffing adjustments will not alter our service pattern.
