INFORMATION:

The commission updated the standards for Initial School Psychologist (584-017-0351) to substantially align with the National Association of School Psychologist (NASP) standards.

Each of the approved Oregon School Psychologist programs has worked with TSPC staff in development of the new standards.

As the new standards were being developed it became clear that only minor modifications were necessary to align the new state standards to the national standards of NASP. Programs also indicated that each had essentially been aligned to the NASP standards because of the interest to be nationally accredited or because the old standards were so closely aligned.

To determine whether major modifications were necessary because of the change in standards, each program is undertaking a self-assessment to determine degree of alignment to the new state standards. Each program will provide evidence at the May 2008 commission meeting whether modifications to approved programs are necessary.
